Antelope Island on Salt Lake, UT

The drive from Moab to Morgan Utah was beautiful.  It was about 260 miles. The drive was beautiful because the terrain was constantly changing.  We got here and it started to sleet. We are up in the mountains at a state park called East Canyon State Park.  A very nice park but it's been cold and rainy since we got here.
Friday morning we left and drove to Antelope Island State Park on Salt Lake. It was a very interesting day.

If you look at the picture below you can see how much the lake has receded.  The ranger said is has been going down a little each year for about 15 years.

Aren't the snow covered mountains in the distance beautiful?

Caught a shot of this guy up by the visitor center.

There is a large herd of buffalo on the island -- it runs between 800-900. Once a year they thin out the herd. They go to zoos or are relocated to other locations.

Lots of babies in the field.  Spring has sprung.

This was fascinating. We went to visit this ranch which is still a working ranch and you can walk through the property and visit all the old homestead buildings.  They are all still there.  Some are being used and some are not.

This is the sheep shearing barn.

The grounds are beautiful and Lee and Jim had fun looking at all the old equipment.

Here are some pictures from the original homestead. Of course, the bathroom over the years was modernized with shower and a flush toilet.

This is the inside of the chuck wagon that went out on cattle drives.

This is the outside of the chuck wagon.

This is the old bunkhouse

these guys crossed the road in front of us

Jim and Lee enjoyed looking at all the old equipment.

We are at an overlook--you are looking over Salt Lake.

It had started to rain and the reflection on the lake on the way out was beautiful.

Looks like the rain we had brought some more snow to the mountains.

This is a picture of East Canyon Campground.

Tomorrow we will go to downtown Salt Lake and visit the Mormon Tabernacle.
