Tucsson AZ 2015

We left Vegas after a lovely visit with our nieces and traveled to Winterhaven, CA and camped at River's Edge RV Resort. It is a Good Sam park and very nice. Nice walk along the river. We only stayed there 3 night just long enough to get the rest of our dental work done.
The LosAlgodonos crossing into Mexico is totally safe and just inside the crossing are pharmacies, opticians, and dental offices. It's the Americans who are there getting dental work done. Lee got 4 crowns and 2 root canals done for $1,500 for those.  I had one cleaning and one crown and one filling for $330.

People from the west coast go here every 6 months to get their dental work done because it is so much cheaper and well done. Our dentist at home said the work is excellent.

It was so hot during our stay that we didn't do much there other than go to the dentist.

We stayed 3 nights and then left for Tucson, AZ.
As usual the trip there was beautiful.

Love the western rest stops

View from the rest stop.  The layered mountains were beautiful.

I don't remember which river this was over it was just pretty.

I  will miss seeing the trains.

Lots of Solar fields in AZ so good to see our sun's energy put to good use.

We arrived in Tucson and stayed at the Adventure Bound RV resort in Tucson. A nice enough camp ground.
We arrived late afternoon on Sat and on Sun our very good friends Jim and Tracy drove over to see  us from Mesa AZ. We spent a lovely afternoon together. The next time we will probably get to see them will be the spring of 2017.  At that time we will once again tour around together but this time we will be doing an east coast tour.

On day 2 in Tucson we went to Tombstone.

Tombstone courthouse established in 1882.

It was behind the OK coral where all the famous gun fights took place.
There were supposedly 23 saloons in this small town.

Believe it or not the money to build this church came from the license fees of the local prostitutes.

All the stained glass windows are the original.  It cost $55,000 to clean and restore them. Keep in mind that the original building was $5,500.
Amazing couple does most of the upkeep and fundraising for the building.
In general we found Tombstone to be overly commercialized and that the locals were much more interested in selling you something than in sharing the history of the town.  The couple above was the exception they loved sharing the history.
We found Virgina City to be the opposite. The locals there loved sharing the history of the town.
