Springs and trip to Cedar Key Feb. 2016

We always search the surrounding areas for things to do. Places to ride bikes, hiking, community parks and state parks near by. The first week here we found Troy Springs but it was closed due to high water. We did go Wes Skiles Peacock Springs. The day we were there a film crew from Germany was filming divers in the springs. The film was for showing in France and Germany and they said there were only 3 places in the world that had these particular kind of springs and this was one of them.  The underground caves in these springs are very unique and a special cave divers certification is required to dive in these springs.

Also at the springs was a lovely nature trail that we took with Nicky.

This is a picture of one of the divers in the cave under the springs.

I can understand why a specific certification is required for this.

Beautiful isn't it?

There are several springs here and the walk through them if lovely.
It is worth the $4.00 per car you pay to get in.

The other side trip we have made was to Cedar Key about 80 miles away. It is a quaint fishing village on the water.  There is a nice beach there. The island is very dog friendly and there are great restaurants and bakeries.  We found a really nice boardwalk nature trail that we walked with Nicky.  On the way out we checked out the 2 campgrounds there but the sites are very close. Runs about $450/per month.
We enjoyed a very nice day there.

From the dock looking back.

Lots of gorgeous views from the island

I love this bench

I took a picture of this door for my friend Jane. It reminded me of all the tile work in Spain.

There was a Carribean feel there.

We stopped into this bakery for a coffee and something sweet. It was so good.

The name of the bakery was "Bake my day" and adjoining it was a quilt shop. I too this picture for my friends Jane and Janie.

I loved the porch on this house.

This is a picture of the beach there and dogs are allowed.

We stopped into an area where they had community allotments and I took a picture because I would like Lee to build me a couple of these back saving garden beds.

I love taking pictures of doors.

Cedar Key is a good place for bird watching.

This is the boardwalk nature trail I told you about.

Lots of pretty spots to rest along the way.

Sometimes when we are on a slower pace like we are now I start thinking we aren't really doing much. Then I look at all the pictures I've taken and realize that is not exactly true. After the jammed packed days we had when we were touring the national parks in the west, anything seems to be at a much slower pace.

Had a great service this morning at church. About 250 people there. We are in layfayette County and it is the least populated county in Florida.  The county seat is in Mayo. This county consists of mostly dairy farms, ranched and tree farms.  It is considered the Pine tree growing capital of Florida.

Happy Valentine's day to all give your mate a special hug today.

Remember life is not measured by the breaths you take but by the moments that take your breath away.
Happy travels to all.
