Obsidian and Lava cast Forest Trails

Sunday after church we went for another hike with Jim and Tracy. The Obsidian trail was pretty straight up but only and elevation gain of 500 feet. From the top we were able to view the Lost lake and the many Obsidian rocks formed by the volcano.  It's like a black glass.

This was only a 2mile trail so very easy compared to what we have become used to.
That is lost lake out there formed by the volcano.

There is the shiny black obsidian rock.

We left there and drove to the trail head for the Lava Cast Forest. Very bumpy road getting there but the tail itself was paved and easy walking and only 3 miles.

This is a hole in the lava where a tree truck once was and is all burned out.

This tree was twisted like this from the lava flow.
This lava bed is slowly regrowing vegetation.
This is a lava snowball.

This lichen is one of the hardiest plants on the lava floor.
We went on a 6 mile hike today and I am just too tired to tell you about it now so that's tomorrow.
